Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream Review: Sun Savvy Sunday

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well! Today, I have a review for you all, on the Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream SPF 38 PA +++ for Face. It's August now, and though it's nearing fall, it's still hot and sunny most days, at least where I am! Let's get into the review...

I discovered this sunscreen through Xteeener's, or Christine's, videos. She was talking about this product through one of her hauls from a place like TJ Maxx if I can remember, and featured it in quite a lot of videos. The thing that really caught my attention though, is the way she used this sunscreen as a primer, saying that it helped to mattify and control the oil. Having very oily skin, I was immediately intrigued, though I held off buying it until this summer. Seeing Christine have such amazing results, I finally came across this in a TJ Maxx store near me and immediately snatched it up, thinking it was already an HG for me, sadly, that isn't the case.

Here's why: After I bought it, I tried it out for a few days and noticed that it was breaking me out! I don't know if that will still happen, considering it was early summer when I tried this, but I would really not rather take the chance. Another thing is, it didn't even work to mattify my skin at all. I was still as oily as I usually am, if not more. There is a scent to this and it can be strong if applied heavily, and that was also another factor that tarnished this sunscreen. I was truly hoping to like it and make it my HG facial sunscreen because not only did I find it at a great price, I really trust Christine's opinion.

Sadly though, this did not work out for me. The consistency isn't thick, it's thin, but not to the point where it will run like crazy. Since I can't use in on my face, I found that this is an amazing sunscreen to apply on places like the hands and arms, especially if you're going out to run and you have to drive but don't want slippery hands. That's the most amazing thing about this sunscreen, it's not greasy or slippery and it's marketed as being a water resistant formula, so this is really amazing for arms, back of the hands, upper shoulders, neck, decollete, and anywhere else on the body as it dries quickly and isn't greasy. This is really beneficial if you're like me, my arms can look sort of red and sun burnt if they are exposed to the sun for as short period of time as driving to the mall in the summer.

I really hope this helped out some of you who were wanting to try out this sunscreen, and hopefully if it doesn't work out, you can use it as a body sunscreen! Thank you all so much for reading, and have a wonderful day!

  1. I've been curious about this product, but never bought it because the price is a bit steep for me. It sucks that it didn't work out well as a facial sunscreen, but at least you found a better use for it! :) Our hunt for the perfect facial sunscreen continues! :P

Btw, found you through Everyday Makeup Blog. :) Loved your review on the shadow insurance.

    1. Hello Melli! Yay, I'm so excited that I got to guest post on Rebekkah's blog. Thank you so much for commenting and taking the time to read, oh and you may still be able to find this at TJ Maxx in their beauty section for around $16.99-$17. At least that's where I found mine, and who knows, it could work out amazingly for you! :)
