Hello and welcome back to my blog! I know I've been a bit absent since the re-branding, but I'm ready to jump back into blogging with a new blog post coming to you every day, so keep a lookout and check back! I'm also trying out a new style and structure to my posts, so please leave me a comment letting me know if you like this new structure better or if you have any other suggestions!
Today, I'll be giving you all a review of the Lush Coalface Cleanser. I found this cleanser about 2 years ago, and I can safely say that it has had quite the hand in changing my skin. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that I have very acne prone, sensitive, and oily/combo skin. I've struggled to keep to a skincare routine that would work for me for many years now, but, I've been sticking to this cleanser and despite its appearance, is doing wonders for my skin! Without further ado, let's get into the details!
Q: How much does it cost?
A: This depends on how much you want! If you have a Lush store near you, then you can go in, and request any price amount you'd like of this soap and they'll cut it to that amount for you. Personally, I find that a $15-$20 amount lasts me for a good 4-6 months. Alternatively, you could order online here, for $14.95/3.5 oz.
Q: Does it suit my skin?
A: If you have oily/combo, acne prone, and sensitive skin, then yes! If you're on the drier side, this might actually dry you out.
Q: Is the scent going to make me pass out?
A: It shouldn't, unless you're very sensitive to scents. It does have a herbal, black licorice scent that I didn't like at first, but it's grown on me and now I find it relaxing!
Q: How do I use it?
A: Take the bar of soap between your wet hands and work up a lather, then apply to your face. Alternatively, you could directly lather the soap onto your Clarisonic like I do at night time.
Q: When do I use it?
A: I like to use this in the morning and night. It's my first cleansing step in the morning and my second cleanse at night.
Q: What are the ingredients?
A: Liquorice Root Decoction (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) Rapeseed Oil; Coconut Oil (Brassica Napus; Cocos Nucifera) Glycerine Sorbitol Water (Aqua) Fragrance Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Sodium Stearate Powdered Charcoal Sandalwood Oil (Santalum Austro-Caledonicum Vieill and Fusanus Spicatus) Rosewood Oil (Aniba Rosaeodora) Sodium Chloride EDTA Tetrasodium Etidronate Sodium Hydroxide *Farnesol *Geraniol *Linalool Silver Lustre (Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides). - Taken from the Lush USA website
Q: What's the texture?
A: This works into a foamy lather, with some bits of charcoal.
Q: What're the pros?
A: This has helped clear up my skin immensely. It hasn't been irritating to my skin whatsoever. Since I get it cut up into chunks, it's easily portable, which is great since I travel to and from university and home quite a bit. It's also not too expensive, and the amount that you pay, if you have a Lush store near you, is customizable.
Q: What're the cons?
A: This can get a bit... slippery sometimes. On some early mornings before class, I've had this slip right out of my hands and land on the floor whilst I was lathering it up. That is the only con for me though, and I can deal with that to have the amazing results.
Q: Would I repurchase?
A: Yes! I've repurchased countless times in the past 2 years already and will continue to do so!
Conclusion: this cleanser has been a staple in my routine and I've tried to deviate to other cleansers once or twice and it's never panned out great (hello, breakouts!). If you have the same skin type and I do and feel like you've tried all the cleansers out there to no avail, maybe give this one a shot. Especially if you have a Lush store near you, you can easily get a small chunk to try out. Once again, I am back for good, so expect more posts and let me know in a comment what you think of this new review style! Thank you all so much for reading!
